Cambria Co., PA (WJAC) — Old building, new purpose.
Cambria County officials say they recently purchased a medical building in Ebensburg and renovated it into a court annex.
Officials say that the new building, located off of Route 22, will be home to Cambria County’s domestic relations and adult probation offices, and the day reporting center.
President of the Cambria County Board of Commissioners office Thomas Chernisky hosted the opening ceremony and talks about the work that will be done inside the building.
“That’s what you’re doing now, you continue the momentum of helping people, helping, showing your love back into society through a process and it’s about giving back and helping people and that’s what we’re doing here today, we’re helping people.”
Chernisky says the day reporting center has a proven track record of providing a second chance for people who have struggled in the legal system.
Toni White, is the current chief probation officer and previously worked as the director of the day reporting center, says this building will give them the opportunity to help more people.
“The transportation that we had at the other building it would take people that lived in Johnstown probably two hours to get here just to check in and then have to leave where here the buses run every hour so that takes a lot less of their time to actually be here, so we’re excited about that.”
Robin Holovka is the executive director of domestic relations and will also be working in the new building. She says it will be a fresh start for everybody.
“I think it’s exciting for myself and my staff to have a new space, I mean we haven’t had new furniture for 25-30 years and we went through a flood two years ago that destroyed a lot of our building and they rebuilt it but this is nice to have.”
