Centre County YMCA holds free milk give away in downtown State College

6 News reported about Penn State's plan to offer new assistance to students facing problems in paying for housing and food.

Wednesday, a vital element in most daily diets was available for free in downtown State College.

Along boulevard at the heart of Town Gown relations on College Avenue there's something new: Free milk and plenty of it.

“Really just doing this, with COVID a lot of people don’t get the food that they need, the milk that they need,” says Penn State student Maddie Polkinghorn.

The free milk distribution organized by the Centre County YMCA's anti-hunger program.

There’re more than a thousand gallons available across the street from campus.

The help provided by Penn State student volunteers dubbed the student anti-hunger organization.

“When people think about food insecurity, they think about the slums and cities, and they don’t think about food insecurity is everywhere, especially in college areas.”

The YMCA has another free food distribution event planned in State College at the same location, on Locust Lane, in two weeks, April 21st from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
